It has 16 rings but the trunk is only3cm in diameter. It grows a little each year. I don't want to think what the root ball is like. I think the moss and lichens help it somehow. I do give it a hand...

I'm also impressed with how hearty moss can be as I've had it die on me often when I try to grow it indoors. I think moss needs a LOT more sun than most people think. And it's not dead if it dries out most of the time. When the rain hits? It turns lush and green again.

There are about 12 kinds of moss in the pot. And this makes a nice landscape for the ants that live in the walls.

So, what I'm saying is if you have a little outdoor space you can start a moss garden. Get a big pot, deep if you also want a random tree. But the moss can make do with about 3" of substrate.
