I USED TO PUT EVERYONE WITH HIGH LDL ON A STATIN

Early in my career, high LDL meant an immediate, high-dose statin. Side effects were "all in your head". I barely looked at triglycerides unless they were really high. I was blind to the benefit of normal trigs.

Now I know how ignorant and unhelpful that was. It's also why I have hope for your doctor; correcting your paradigm is hard, but it is possible.

Carey 2010 studied hospital patients whose LDL was already under 130. The ones with heart disease were more likely to have high triglycerides and low HDL. The group with the highest trigs and lowest HDL had about 10 times the odds of heart disease.

That doesn't mean nobody needs a statin. It means LDL is at best a small part of the whole story. Look at your trigs, HDL, A1c, Insulin & hs-CRP first.

What if all of those measures and even *many* more are all outstanding (ex. trig/HDL 0.7), expect LDL-P and LDL-C are somewhat high? I can’t get any AI to concede that I’m not at increased risk of atherosclerosis, just because of those two.

How many sats for you to review my blood work from past two years and give me some tips?

Elevated triglycerides tend to show up years before LDL rises or fasting glucose drifts, which is what makes them an early insulin resistance signal. A HOMA-IR above 2.0 works the same way, flagging insulin resistance well before A1c reaches prediabetic range.

What about the sunlight story with UVB light and the body using LDL to create vitamin D?
