China has seen two big "viral movements" on recent years, tang ping (lay flat) and bai lan (let it rot). I have not spent much time on the ground, but it'd seem to me that chinese youth is turning towards nihilism just as much as western youth. Not usually a sign of "anything is within our reach" ...

Sure I only see a cross section across space (>15 different cities and even more rural areas) and time (20 years). China is a rapidly rising nation in the real world that you can experience with your senses. There are plenty of “theories” to the opposite and they’ve all been consistently wrong...
