Apple cancelled my order. Twice.

So guess I am switching to Linux for my desktop/daily driver.

So far discovered that Pop_OS! new COSMIC desktop requires restart if you ever want to change mouse speed.

Spending an hour making a mouse not move 20x faster than it should is peak Linux.

It's so annoying but I'm gonna make it work.

I am sustained by a deep loathing of Microsoft and Apple.

I’m sure you’ll get more than enough unsolicited Linux advice from this post. All I’ll say is that I hope you’re able to make it work for you, because Linux is a solid operating system, though it does have it’s quirks. In fairness, Windows and Mac OS have their quirks, too. Choose your s...

Fate as it seems, doesn't seem to come without a sense of irony.

Try Pop_OS! without COSMIC. Running 22.04 no mouse issues. COSMIC still needs more tuning before I start using it. Running VM with Pop_OS!/COSMIC and it needs to mature a little more.

COSMIC is so new I wouldn't recommend it as a starting place. That sounds more like Linux of 10 years ago. Fedora KDE is pretty solid. Might overwhelm with options but you can also make it look Macish pretty quickly.

I suggest "KDE neon" #KDE the best window manager ever

I switched to Linux last month and also started with Pop_OS. No mouse problems but it didn't like my game controller and had to do a similar fight. I switched to Bazzite and it's been seamless ever since. Fedora based.

In the context of I'm too old to want to tinker anymore, and I haven't owned a Mac since the 90s, Windows drove me to Linux Mint in ~2017. At the time, I did my research and was convinced that Mint was the best "it just works" option (provided your hardware was at least a year or 2 old to ensure dr...

Not familiar with Pop or COSMIC but I’ve install mint on old Mac laptops and they both wired seamlessly.

I've been daily driving either XUbuntu (Ubuntu with XFCE) or Debian (with XFCE) for the last decade without any memorable "peak Linux" issues coming to mind.

I started on Windows 3.11 as a kid, lived on every Windows release as an IT geek and IT admin all my life, until I quit TradFi and started preferring Ubuntu 4y ago. Never going back. The UI and performance is incomparable, plus not having all the bloatware and funky UI changes... I'd never even cons...

Welcome aboard! 👍🏻 I use Fedora Workstation (with Gnome).

I've used pop is as my daily driver since about 2018, when I found every version of windows since 7 pretty much unusable. Cosmic I'm sure will be great eventually, but I'm finding a few things that are just buggy or not quite there yet. Think I'll switch to omarchy too, gave it a go on a spare machi...

idk man, i use fedora silverblue. fedora atomic os variants are really good. but i use my own ostree image on github. its on top of fedora's bootc image. install apps as flatpak. or create a distrobox and install it inside them. or use appimages. for example my whole dev environment is inside a dis...

Use Artix Linux, KDE version or XFCE version. You'll thank me later. Or maybe KDE Neon.
