This is the surface of Venus, captured by a Soviet probe in the 1970s

A piece of one of these missions just crash landed in the Indian Ocean

I didn’t even know the Soviets had landed crafts on Venus, took photos, recorded sounds, etc, until a few years ago

My grandfather supervised the production of the Venice module, as well as several other Soviet space missions (the Lunokhod, the lunar soil sample, Phobos, and Halley's Comet). In fact, I still find unused spacecraft parts he brought in the garage.

Didn't know images could be that high-def in the 70s

What, did the USA go to the moon???

Looks very fake.

Im confused. I thought the earth was flat and Venus was made up to justify women’s mood swings. I must have stumbled into the wrong internet echo chamber.

Humans have never landed anything on Venus; this is NASA Cinema taking a picture of some rocks so the peasants clap and throw more taxes at them

You didn’t play “Buzz Aldrin’s race into space”

Venus can get fucked.

Beefcoiner · 46w
Wow. Venus is also flat!

Interesting, but I can’t believe it. Why do space agencies get a pass but all other govt things are scrutinized?

Awesome
