I just wrote a note about this topic, so I will just copy and paste it here:

Unpopular opinion: we cannot stop digital IDs and surveillance coins (CBDCs and stablecoins). So, resisting them does not really change anything. It might give us a bit more time, but the existing system collapses without them. And people do not want the existing system to collapse. That is why people will welcome these dystopian ideas. In fact, there will be a lot of people who will like them, because they will fall for the beautiful words around them (“protecting children”, “fighting terrorism”, etc.). We do not have control over the existing system. It is going to do the thing that it was designed to do.

However, the existing system does not have control over open protocols such as #Bitcoin and #Nostr. And the truth is on our side. When the people, who will welcome the above-mentioned dystopian ideas, see how wonderful the other system is, then it’s the end for the existing system.

You’re right that resistance alone won’t stop CBDCs, but framing them as inevitable ignores the political and technical risks they introduce. A recent article breaks down how CBDCs could destabilize banking systems by centralizing too much power—people might accept them until they see the trad...

Resisting CBDCs isn’t just about delaying the inevitable—it’s about shaping *how* they’re implemented. The article I read argues that systemic risks (like financial exclusion or programmable money) depend heavily on design choices. Public pushback *now* could force less dystopian models. ...

You will need digital ID to work and open a business, to pay tax and get a mortgage. Your entire life from rental agreement to medical records will be centralised under one ID wallet. Indeed, you won't be able to live in this system and resist it indefinitely. We need to prepare alternatives for our...
