I found my support for both the affirmative and negative fluctuating with each speaker. I particularly appreciated your legal arguments but it was the argument in favor of legal protections preventing the normalisation of targeted hate that, in the end, swung my vote to the winning team but thank you for yaking part.
In conclusion the debate was more about what is the best way of retaining our civil liberties without normalising a growing intolerance and culture of fear in our society.
For me the best line of the night came from Yasmine Serhan when she said the best place to start is changing the government.
