Coming from across the ditch where GST on all goods and services including any imported goods was first raised from 10% to 12.5% and later to 15% both times by #NZPol RW neoliberal Govt’s that raising GST has made the poorer pay tax on a far greater proportion of their income compared to higher earners and of course businesses can right off all GST it pays, against the GST it brings in and paying the difference or in cases of losses have the GST proportional loss refunded.

Yes, hopefully that is now not such an issue. The right wing and largely cooperative NZ media have done a lot of work over the years to create an illogical narrative of fear when it comes to the Greens but I think more and more people are realising they are being pissed on and told it’s raining.

The more surprising thing for me is although the NZ Greens are currently the third largest party in parliament they have never been in government although have served in partnership and supply agreements with both Labour and National led coalition governments with ministers outside of cabinet.

I hope to see a strong contingent of Green ministers in the next #NZPol government, hell, in my wildest dreams I can see a Green PM leading the next coalition government.

Interesting to see the Greens gaining momentum in polling although acknowledging this is not a political poll rather a measure of which party is seen as better capable of managing a certain category eg health, education etc

One thing I clearly remember from the *2020 election was the reaction a Green Party polling strongly had on centrist voters and lightweight National supporters moving to Labour out of fear of a strong Greens coalition contingent.

*The 2020 election resulted in Labour being able to form the only single party majority government in NZ’s history of MMP.
