It's a Linux distribution and a large portion of the work we do is on the Linux kernel itself. The family of operating systems based on the Android Open Source Project being extremely widely used doesn't make it not Linux. Traditional desktop distributions not being what got mass adoption by regular users doesn't mean they aren't Linux users. Most people are Linux phone users.
