Ok people, I need help.

What brand of washer and dryer do you hate, and which do you like/has worked for you.

I’m avoiding anything with digital screens because I’ve literally only ever heard and experienced them to be unreliable, unfixable without a “certified technician,” and annoying AF.

If anyone has any useful info or experiences with washer/dryer combo feel free to dump your advice below. #asknostr #homestr

I prefer the top load style with an agitator. Just bought a Maytag that has been great so far, but it’s only been about 6 months. I had a front load Samsung and the drum constantly came loose and got extremely loud, then broke. Also, the front load ones tend to get water caught in the rubber th...

we have a set from LG that has lasted us close to 15 years, no servicing other than a deep clean every year or two

LG washer and dryer. Front load. Not one issue.

I’ve been a home inspector for 12 years and a realtor for 12 years before that. I’ve been in over 10,000 strangers homes and operated appliances in about 5000 of them. Samsung is garbage. Lots of touchscreen or fancy gimmicky shit that breaks too easy. Whirlpool and GE seem to be the most reli...

Not sure if nostr:npub132ertlsrunh600cph2au55ssmel2cqdt5mnrpxfand5ych4nmp8q50zmdh mentioned it, but apparently most of the manufacturers use white label service, so they are all kinda the same Maybe the advice was to buy local made good brand machine I’m trying to locate that tweet/note

Speed queen, but they are much smaller than the consumer brands
gotham_now · 78w
Buy a cheap top loaded washer and cheap dryer. If there is a problem they are cheap to replace, but they seem to have fewer issues regardless. LG, Samsung, and Electrolux all have issues. Ran into the same problem with “certified” techs on the newest set of fancy washers and dryers. After four v...

Find a set of old Maytags if you can. The ones built in the 80’s and before are damn near indestructible.

LG front loaders are great, when they break they're easy to fix and the parts are super cheap.
arkinox · 78w
Check out consumer reports magazine at your local library. Normally you have to pay for it. They test products and provide excellent ratings and reviews.

I have speed queen. Only thing I’ve had to do is pull a sock out of the pump over last 10 years. Does a load pretty quickly compared to previous front loader. Probably uses a lot more water.
mleku · 78w
i had an issue with the washer here and down at the nearby appliance/furniture store there was a really nice thing that was all analog, had like 3 dials and no displays all old school what i hate about the new stuff is the lack of real flexibility like, why can't i have a 60'C fast wash? anyone ca...

I own a maid business and we do 10-15 loads per day. We like the basic LGs. They have lasted for years and are abused.
Ben · 78w
We have front load LG units that have lasted us 5 years so far with no issues. I don’t know the model number, but pretty basic. No wifi, touchscreen, Bluetooth bullshit. I would avoid all that if possible.
patrick · 78w
In Denmark we all know that Miele is expensive but worth the money because the last forever.
LibertyGal · 78w
Can't speak strongly on brand, but I don't like front load washers. They typically use so little water that I don't feel like they get clothes really clean. I strongly prefer the top load that doesn't have the spindle in the middle.

I would look for old stuff on marketplaces or go to a thrift store. Most new machines must connect to the internet to even power on.

Maytag Speed Queen. No frills. It just works all the time forever.

I use the basic bare bones non nonsense and highly serviceable Sears/Kenmore 110. No digital displays. No bullshit High Efficiency modes. An actual agitator.

Miele. The cheapest lines are usually very simple without any screens and yet still very reliable

Our government has us using a stand pipe and clothes lines. Because of our state kinship we barely get proper water supplies 🤷

I just bought my first ever Washer and dryer set. $175 used on OfferUp. Dryer works great but I needed to spend $25 on a new cable to connect to my older outlet. Washer works... but bangs due to imbalance, turns out it needs new suspension rods which after shipping, and 2 other small items recommend...

Wear white tees and jeans. For laundry use bucket of water, beat the clothes against rocks.
Paul Allen · 78w
Got almost 20 years out of a Whirlpool duet front loader but I'd be surprised if they still make them that reliable.
kreyszig · 78w
So many brands use the exact same components, there is a big overlap in the offering. Usually unless you go for commercial grade you will not get more quality by paying more, you will just getmore gadgets that are likely to break. I try keeping and fixing all my appliances nyself gor as long as I ca...

LG top load washer and gas dryer

I like the older Kenmores. They're very reliable and don't have all that IOT circuitry to spy on you.

We got LG in 2015. Had one minor issue with a relay in the control panel maybe 5 years in (which after I bought the part, but before I installed it, corrected itself). It's got the digital timer display, and 'bubble' buttons, but no 'smart' screen or anything.
