I'm not sure whether you believe this or not, but even if a person thinks that having it adjust every single block is too much, you could still lower it down to say every... I don't know, 512 blocks or something.

512 blocks would reduce lag, but a few realities remain. Variance is still high with only 512 samples. Difficulty would swing more on pure luck than the current window. Isolation and timestamp attacks become somewhat easier the shorter the window gets. Any change requires a hard fork and actual cons...
