What's the point and benefit of social networks as we know them nowadays, even #nostr I'm not sure. It's really weak entertainment and shallow knowledge.

I remember reading Usenet decades ago and being fascinated by the level of those conversations.

Barrier of entry. Usenet peaked when there were fewer users who were more technical. As the content quantity (esp binaries) increased and quality decreased, forums became more popular. They had a lower technical barrier of entry, but you had to actually want to discuss subject x to join. This ...
