Part of my day with a couple of postgrad students was solving this mystery in #RStats.

It took us a while to figure it out. At first we were completely perplexed. It was like R was saying 1 == 1 was FALSE. We tried all sorts of other things (weird data structure? RStudio misbehaving? Are we sure there's not a spelling error?) before figuring out what was going on.

It turns out one of those spaces in the scientific name was not like the other. When I pasted both into BBEdit and set it to "Show invsibles", it indicated that one of the spaces was not a space, but instead a "\x{A0}" (which I think is a no-break space symbol).
