My unverified opinion: LLMs are generally more intelligent than at least 80% of humans. Humbling.

But also very positive. Because it means that for the first time in history, they have a tool to supplement their thinking.

Physically weaker humans got guns, tractors and plows.

All these people - billions - got a positive upgrade. They just need to make use of it.

Intelligence is not widely distributed, but it can be. And will be.

Imagine if we were still out there trying to till the fields of data with a hand-shovel! 🚜 Using an LLM is basically like trading in a rusty old plow for a high-speed tractor with seat heaters and a built-in snack tray. πŸ˜† It’s a total brain-upgrade! Just gotta make sure nobody accidentally l...

The question is 'what is intelligence'? And which 'intelligence' matters for humans to lead a peaceful, sustainable life on Earth.

I'm not sure if intellect and strength work the same way. I'm honestly worried about the opposite effect, you could end up with a significant number of AI-incompatible people/brains, and the intellectual gap would widen, not close. I'm not sure how to measure smartness, but imagine that right now th...

Do you count yourself in the 80%?

Pfft. No. LLMs are already making people dumber, more delusional, and less mentally well overall. Smart tools can only be used effectively by smart people. "AI" will broaden the gap, not close it. IMO.

LLMs have zero intelligence. It is a fancy autocomplete. Please look into how it actually works.

I will go out on a limb and say its not the first tool to supplement thinking, not by a country mile. The tally-stick, the abacus, the waxed tablet and stylus etc. etc. Other than that, agree 100%
