Oh my. Where to begin? We don’t call 911; we are 911.

First of all, there is plenty of food in the swamp, cattails are the supermarket of the swamp, use them for torches, eat the tender shoots (tastes like hearts of palm), use the stalks for a number of applications. Secondly, not many neighbors get on your nerves, because it’s a swamp. Thirdly, and I could go on, the rhythm of life is much less frenetic, more connected to nature and the cycle of life. Bees are happy in the swamp, because there is nearly always a nectar and water source nearby. The sounds are a symphony. Mosquitos and snakes are not fun but neither is downtown traffic, supermarket lines, HOAs.

Alligator hide is very valuable, gator tail tastes like lobster, but very few swamp dwellers that I know harvest them. In the swamp, where you’re miles from a store, you learn to conserve, to make do, to be satisfied, to find joy in a simpler pattern. Wifi can be tricky, so it helps you unplug from the noise/drama.
