Swipe up to close apps on Android doesn't make your phone any faster. It usually doesn't even close the apps, including Amethyst. You can just leave them all open. Android will close the oldest apps...

It basically stops the activity, which is just the screen of the app. But only if none of the background processes are working. If they are working it literally just hides it.
