I think it is mostly classic hindsight vision. It is also weird that there has been a honeypot of coins riding on custom software that does not use standard libraries but did have its source available for all this time but until now nobody noticed.

Just imagine how many things are probably happening to you right now that you do not notice until somebody points them out and then you'll be like "how blind have i been all this time?"

Even if you could look at code and understand it, there is still no 100% security. How do you know if what you are looking at is actually what is on your device? Most people don't build from source and upload it themselves. Then there are still tools needed to build it, which could be backdoored (looking at you, xz), or even the hardware itself could in some way be buggy or sniffable with something.

The only way we can learn is from mistakes like this. It was not the first, and it will not be the last and it's tough for the victims, but it improves the quality for the future.

I would like this too but what does stolen even mean when all you can see are valid transactions? How would you verify "stolen" vs "boating accident"?
