For me whenever i went on a several week daily toking binge it was just the first hit of the day that felt good and after that i would mostly not really notice anything anymore and feel kinda normal, but make the day feel less boring.

I quit for about 6 months and made some proper rules for myself before starting again. I now feel in control and am happy i can mix it in once in a while without either wanting to get high again the next day.

Quitting the first time was actually easier than i thought and it's the only reason i did not completely abandon it.
