Devils advocate: Some of the best coaches in American sports have been dudes that weren’t really that good when they played or never played in the league they coached in. Not disagreeing with you. Just pointing out that it’s not simply white and black. Data is data and it’s up to you to deci...

But, I will happily seek advice from the inverse of each of these.

Cautionary tales, though. Sometimes people that have made mistakes have great wisdom to share. You're right about degrees. I do not trust doctors. I do not trust financial advisors. They both have proved to be wrong about many things.

Agreed but this also reminds me of the time Milton Friedman said “are you going to say that you don’t want a doctor to treat you for cancer because he himself has not had cancer” Source: nostr:note1frfh96dpvudnvcghku6c24aqmftjjs2gn76tq6p4s979v78weljqpq5qpw

So you are unwilling to learn from other people's mistakes?

Marriage advice from someone who is divorced and happily remarried is probably the best advice you can get. Marriage advice from someone who’s been divorced multiple times… dicey

Would you take coaching advice from Bill Billicheck or Pete Carroll since they were not successful early in their careers? I agree with the financial advice. Disagree with the marital advice, without knowing the context of their failed relationship.

Good point. I like that approach shared widely by Ray Dalio - trust believable people. Ray Defines such people as someone who achieved success in certain area couple of times (I.e. 3) and - more importantly - can describe why it happened .
