I like tech, but in many ways it has ruined everything. We seem to be confused in thinking that more tech will solve the problems introduced by tech.
Sure, we've extended lifespans, but to what end? To live longer, less full lives? What's the point?
We discovered chemistry only to poison our environment and ourselves.
Most tech simply contributes to the destruction of the environment despite enabling new possibilities.
Maybe this is a first world perspective talking and anyone who benefits from tech tremendously (electricity, utilities, health) is eternally thankful for it. I don't know... could be. But if we think beyond the individual at civilizational scale, look where it has brought us. Amazing times devoid of fulfilment, meaning, connection.
And now.. AI ... SI ... whatever you want to call it. We think this is going to make it better? Oh, but we'll cure disease, extend life further, solve all of our problems! Really? at what cost? What will life look like at that point? It's hard to imagine the person will feel any more connected - if anything, even further detached from reality, from nature.
I'm not personally depressed or anything, just taking a broader view at what we're really doing here, and what we actually expect to gain.
Thoughts?
