That equates to around 5.2% inflation/year compounded over 59 years. The "official" rate of inflation over that same time period was 3.93%. A difference of only 1.27% which doesn't sound like a whole lot but changes the outcome over 59 year dramatically!

The difference may only be 1.27% but the effect inflation has over time is incredibly destructive. With the "official" rate of 3.93% you would need $9.70 to purchase the same thing that cost $1 in 1964. But we know the rate is 5.2% so how much worse could it be with an extra 1.27%? https://i.imgur....
