That equates to around 5.2% inflation/year compounded over 59 years. The "official" rate of inflation over that same time period was 3.93%. A difference of only 1.27% which doesn't sound like a whole ...

The difference may only be 1.27% but the effect inflation has over time is incredibly destructive. With the "official" rate of 3.93% you would need $9.70 to purchase the same thing that cost $1 in 1964. But we know the rate is 5.2% so how much worse could it be with an extra 1.27%?

Turns out at 5.2% you would need $23 to purchase the same thing that cost $1 in 1964 which is insane... That "measly" 1.27% from the "official rate" resulted in a difference of $13.30, quite a big difference more than double from $9.70 to $23 🤯😳
