It turns out that DuckDuckGo is essentially a Bing frontend. Not only that, but there was also an instance where they hid Microsoft trackers in their browser. 💀

Startpage, on the other hand, is literally pulling all its search results from Google, and it's owned by an advertising company. 💀

Neither of them has its own index.

You know who does? Brave Search, or at least they're actively building one. I believe this is the solution we need: new search indexes instead of relying on Big Tech.

So, Brave Search is now the new web search engine on NostrNet.work , it's good enough for most of the people imo.

I didn't know that about DuckDuckGo. I'm happy I never used it then I would have to tell people I've used Bing 🤣🤣🤣🤣

#Brave search is quite disappointing actually. The results aren’t much different that the ones returned by #Google or #Bing and there are rarely more than 2 pages of results shown… Try http://metager.org/ instead. #SearchEngine #Tech

Thanks for this

What do you think is the solution friend? The truth is that there is no bulletproof seeker today 🤔

Are we all just supposed to ignore that brave is a shitcoin project?

I always knew there was something fishy about DDG

What about yacy? https://yacy.net/

Thank you for this. Have been a long time user of dickduckgo but not anymore

Searx can be a temporary solution, the ultimate that I know of is Yacy.

Not the best take. So "unproven shitcoiner search engine" > privacy preserving bing frontend?? Lol Is brave engine ok because they are larping about about being a small indie company fighting Big Tech, when they are just as bad ad the rest and their business model is pumping and dumping their shitco...

Never trusted the DuckDuckGo thing, specially since the Russia-Ukraine war…

I noticed this a while ago when a website of mine won't show up on only those 2 search engines. Wild how easily people trust DDG

I love brave! I use it daily most days!
nostrich · 138w
you are right, Brave has his own index, yes, but still uses google for some cases. I do not blame them, it is hard to be good enough to be independent.
geeknik · 138w
But isn't Brave an advertising company?
richtig & wichtig · 138w
Instead of bing, you can use ecosia (=results from bing) and do a little bit for the enviroment
cryptowolf · 104w
been using it for years. Thanks for confirming im not crazy!

What’s the source for DuckDuckGo?
Justin Nakamoto · 103w
Brave has privacy issues, but at least they are not as bad as opera.
