@nprofile1q... yeah, the first (and #libre, so inherently better from my perspective) system I was aware of that could do that was the Serval Project. Now, apparently, defunctish. See https://web.archive.org/web/20120501191843/http://www.servalproject.org/ for example. It's a no-brainer, but it's against the interests of mobile network corporates... who need to be better regulated.
