Get ramps for oil changes, don't crawl under a car on stands. You can get them used from junk yards or Craigslist.

Get a fumoto valve to replace your oil plug, much cleaner, you can drain directly into an empty oil jug.

Cut an old gallon jug in half length wise and leave the screw cap on and hold it under the filter as you screw it off and let the filter fall into the jug.

This is how you do a spill-free oil change. A plastic oil pan is only needed to catch any drips in case something tips over or slides.
