Drone people: seeing all this drone warfare stuff in Ukraine has me wondering how difficult/cheap is it to setup automated routines on a drone and have it return to base to charge itself for the next mission?

If this is relatively easy and can be done with cheap drones, I could use to go check animal water/turn them on, test electric fence/find shorts, survey forest/pasture health/status and all of this basically makes it a sentry.

If that works out and we're relatively easy, it would probably be easy to strap on more sensors for better data like LIDAR or thermal is the data proved valuable.

I’ve been thinking along the lines of farm/ranch automation - not the big Ag version - for a few years. Realization I’ll need it, as I won’t be young and spry by the time I get to ‘retire’, lol. I’m glad smarter folks are working ahead of me.

Have taken a few steps along that road myself :) Spectrum licensing means data is a bottleneck. Cellular data is expensive and vulnerable to dead spots. Wifi's limited range means full FPV drone control is too short-range. LoRa has the range, but not the bandwidth for realtime video, so the sens...

I thought about this too, but with a mobile starlink terminal on it instead of cellular communication.
