Is anyone a butterfly expert? A beautiful monarch butterfly has been hanging out on the ground. I thought it was maybe drying its wings. I saw it fly off. Now its back in the same spot. Is there something wrong with it?

Likely cold or dehydrated. Place a sugar water dab near it. Beautiful creature, reminds me why nature’s design trumps modern lab-created junk every day.

If it's a monarch that emerged late in the season, this is textbook behavior — late-emergers often skip the migration and enter reproductive diapause, hanging around the same sheltered spot for weeks.
