My very first self-produced albums on burned CDs—and later printed on-demand by mp3.com (anyone else here old enough to remember that?) in the late 1990s and early 2000s—were my first and, for a long time, last solo releases. And honestly? They are staying in the vault! Those were my first baby steps, and they will definitely remain under lock and key. 😅
After that, I spent years playing bass in various bands without having much say in the songwriting. It wasn't until 2014, after a long hiatus, that I finally turned back to my own music and released an EP called "Dying Souls." Back then, it felt like a massive milestone just to see your own tracks listed on Apple Music, Amazon, or Spotify.
In a fit of delusions of grandeur, I also had 500 physical CDs pressed. Naturally, except for a mere handful, they just ended up gathering dust on a shelf. A couple of years ago, I threw most of them out—much to my daughter's absolute horror. 🙈
However, that EP has been available as a Value-for-Value release for a while now, just waiting to be discovered. Some of the songs and lyrics might feel a little rough around the edges, but looking back, I still really dig the overall production. This was, of course, way before I switched to fully analog production—everything was tracked digitally, and an old friend of mine handled the mixing and mastering.
If you want to give it a listen, you can find all the relevant links below.
P.S. Does anyone want one of the few remaining physical CDs? Hit me up—I'll gladly ship one your way for a few Sats! 💿⚡️
