Someone should pay me to sit in an advisory role to a govt or corporate body that is trying to figure out "#AI policy."

I would just pose some basic questions and require clear answers ...
It seems like no one is doing this. Everyone is falling all over each other to be the first, use it as much as possible, and sack as many qualified staff as they can.
But are any of them doing due diligence? Just the really basic stuff:
What is the value of a machine that cannot produce the same output when given identical inputs?
What is the ROI from a process that burns resources at a rate that cannot be measured, because nobody knows how many tokens a given unit of work will consume?
How stable is the business model of a company whose cost to provide the service is tens or hundreds of times greater than the revenue they're making from their customers?
How long will it be before some truly aggrieved people start loading up cheap consumer drones with explosives and flying them into data centres?
