@nprofile1q... Where does he get the 22-27K range? That's ridiculously over spec for most residential systems. Your high quote of 13K is far more realistic for a grid-tied setup and about what I would assume the average household.

I had a 4.4 kW system installed for less than 15K nearly six years ago and it's paid for itself. The same money would get at least 1.5x the power now.

@nprofile1q... The only real issue is the cost of retrofitting existing housing stock. But there is an easy win in lots of older homes. It's been common practice for a long time to put light fixtures on one or two low-amperage circuits that can use smaller conductors, and run thicker wire to the mains outlets in the walls around the house. So switching all the lighting to 24V DC would be pretty simple. The side benefit is that using plain LED light fittings without the rectifying drivers would mean greater longevity as well as efficiency.

The safety issue that comes up with higher DC voltages is that you need arc suppression in the switches.

Back in the day I took great joy in making collage-style band flyers with scissors and a glue stick. I might have even saved a couple of my faves.
