Perhaps that's a version of the "anthropic principle." They are asserting that our being here at all is proof of how special we are. Given that we have put a lot of effort into detecting other intelligences, and have so far come up with dick, there may be something to it.
Then again, if we're the best Almighty God can do, what's that tell you about Almighty God?
