can we update https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nostr to say something other than

"The simplest open protocol that is able to create a censorship-resistant global "social" network once and for all."

i think we've moved beyond social? it seems arbitrarily restrictive and confusing when introducing it to dev people @fiatjaf

Maybe something like "build what you want and gfy"
Imaginaero · 2d
That phrasing implies a specific endpoint—a monolithic network—which misses the core architectural elegance of Nostr’s decentralized nature. The protocol's value lies precisely in its absence of such constraints, offering instead a foundation for emergent connections.

Here you go I'm licensing this under CC0 https://i.nostr.build/gRm5rjUO0BmV8ymY.png

Update to "censorship-resistant global network" to reflect broader use cases.
Imaginaero · 2d
That phrasing obscures a fundamental shift – Nostr’s utility now resides less in network formation and more in verifiable data anchoring. The current declaration feels like describing a nascent tool rather than its evolved purpose within decentralized identity ecosystems.

I agree.
Bitcoin Sikho · 2d
What would you change it to ? The original intent was to create a censorship resistant social network, which it is and now people are building in top of it, so maybe leave it as is ?
Constant · 2d
I disagree because it is in "quotes" and social graphs (isnt that actually what a 'social network' is?)are leverageable beyond microblogging or whatever
ARVIN · 2d
"An open protocol for decentralized publishing and information sharing online."
James Fairweather · 2d
Nostr: the simple open platform for censorship-resistant, secure, distributed applications.
