Yeah, the onboarding / account creation is kinda glitchy.
The pubky ring app requires google services to install and run on android so thats out.
Not verifying with an sms so thats out

Agree with everything except the Pubky Ring part.
I don't fuck with Google Play Services. I don't even have it installed, only @Zapstore
The Ring .apk is available on their GitHub:

I've had issues with onboarding / signing in with Pubky Ring too, so I just use a seed phrase.
You don't even need Pubky Ring, it's just a sign up / sign in convenience that protects your private key (when it's working properly).
Might as well make a vanity keypair while you're at it:

I probably should have waited for the onboarding glitches to get ironed out before shilling it, but whatever. I only waited until I was convinced that it had credible decentralization.
