Honestly the only reason to have a phone at all is because everything assumes one has a number reachable by those standards that emulate POTS.
Otherwise a small form-factor computer with a removable modem dongle/insert using the network exclusively for data routing is superior in every aspect.
It doesn't require an absurd amount of incredibly unsafe integration, for instance.
And even the emulation could be solved by simply having SIP trunking readily available for everyone.
So why do we have to cope with this bullshit mass-surveillance technology and all of its myriad flaws?
