⚡🚨 NEW - 23 major news outlets, including The New York Times and USA Today, are now blocking the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine from saving copies of their articles.

They are doing this because they do not want AI companies to use the archived pages to train large language models.

This surely protects their content from scraping, it also limits public access to historical news records.

It makes it harder to track how stories change over time and preserving journalism

That can only improve the truthfulness of AI, let's put it that way. Mainstream media have only been a tool for distortion and manipulation. The smaller and more independent outlets will give a more correct picture of the past, maybe more localised.

Not much real historic journalism is lost here, to be fair.

It makes news liquid... there will be no solid historical reference point. 1984-much?

You have archivists who are archiving assholes in the best most respectful sense of that word. They are probably not going to just let this happen and find ways around it. The news shall be archived.
