Mars has perchlorates in its soil. Poisonous for us, but valuable oxygen sources for many soil bacteria, who will eat it whether we want them to or not. Almost any nitrifying bacteria can utilise perchlorate.
So perchlorate toxicity is a problem if you plan on snorting fat lines of martian regolith...
