I was fortunate to be able to see the free world premiere outdoor screening of Wild Inside with Q&A from the director last night. This finally brought the whole Flaco story around full circle for me.
Like so many of my neighbors in early 2023, I was completely captivated by the seemingly impossible story of an escaped zoo owl finding a new home in Central Park, what Manhattanites collectively refer to as their back yard.
I had a chance to see him myself and capture a few pictures when he was perched in one of his favorite trees in the wooded area in the northernmost section of the park. After he died, we went to his memorial at the base of another one of his favorite trees.
This is a story about survival, but also about the fragility of life and nature, and the role we as humans play in it. If you have a chance to see the film, I highly recommend it. It’s opening tomorrow at IFC Center. and in wider release starting on Tuesday.
