Trump's new AI advisory panel tells you everything about where the power is shifting.
Nvidia, Meta, Oracle, Google are in. Musk and Altman are out. David Sacks co-chairs.
The President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology will start with Jensen Huang, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, and Sergey Brin, the four people who collectively control the chips, the models, the cloud infrastructure, and the data. The panel will advise on AI policy, national security, and the American economy, and could grow from 13 to 24 members.
Zuckerberg and Ellison have both deepened ties with the administration over the past year. Meta donated to Trump's inauguration. Oracle became the backbone of the TikTok divestiture deal. Huang's Nvidia is the linchpin of every major AI buildout in the country. And Brin's Google is racing to catch up in the AI arms race after falling behind OpenAI.
The notable exclusions say just as much. Musk, who ran DOGE, bought Twitter, and was arguably Trump's most visible ally in tech, didn't make the cut. Neither did Sam Altman, whose OpenAI is at the center of the entire AI boom.
