one thing I'm learning is that the less you do, the easier it is have imagined competency
i.e. to "play it all out in your mind", "just do X", etc
no mindgamed out approach survives impact with the real world, which is one of the reasons practical experience matters so much (since fedi leans techie, imagine the difference between reading a bunch of specs and then actually using the thing and implementing the specs; the actual difference is several times stronger than that)
however, a lot of people that actually do stuff in practice are truly well incompetent, in spite of their practical experience, full on lost and confused
you might think these two are contradictory, but I think it isn't
the synthesis of these seemingly contradictory concepts is part of what I wanted to write about in the experience blog post…
