Not just in your head. It's an annoying larp and everyone knows. But in terms of signalling, you're telling a future employer that "I'm willing to do this annoying larp, so will fit in with your annoying larp company culture."
Similar to how the utility of college is more about signalling than learning these days. I have jumped through tedious hoops and dealt with egotistical narcissists for 4 years, so you know I'm not going to quit your shitty ass company when you want me to jump through idiotic hoops 🙄
LinkedIn is the only one I keep of the legacy social medias and it's not even a little bit accurate. I haven't changed it since I got hired, and I got hired because I changed it to say things like "I'm a mid level analyst with little ambition and I definitely don't over think things and rock the boat 😁"
Sorry I got several rejections this morning from jobs I applied to in January and I'm feeling salty 🤣
