What's the idea, you set a interval between the cuts?

Try a manual one that actually cuts and separates the edge. Very satisfying. It's like that first cut of a shovel in good dirt, but repeated over and over.

Edgers are nice bit you can also use your weed wacker upside down

Edgers don't always work good againsta asphalt. Concrete slabs they do. Imo
