I bought this book from The Easton Press for many reasons. One of them was to study their work. How good is it? How do they do it? How do I compare?

Before seeing it, I very honestly was prepared to say "After experiencing the craft from The Easton Press I see I still have a lot to learn. The perfection is exemplar."

But

Do you know what I actually realized?

I'm good.

I am not yet on their level. They have 50 years of experience and they do more than me. They actually print the books and sew them. I don't do this. They gild the sides of the text blocks. I don't do this.

But what I do? I do it well. I became so much prouder of what I do. I was expecting to be humbled but to total opposite happened. Some things I even do better than them.

But. I still have work to do. I can be proud but not complacent.

They do great work. As a layman book enjoyer, the gilding of the pages would be the fastest way to elevate your work. That said, your work is beautiful, and the spine and covers certainly blend in perfectly amidst my wife's leatherbound (mostly EP) book collection.
