True but that's not the contention. Dollars are digital too but, being able to use cash preserves some anonymity. A plastic ID affords custody to "prove" your identity to non-government entities without permissioned access.

While that's partly true, it's less of an issue if you don't have REAL ID. As long as you possibly can, hold out on it. Use a passport instead when you need to travel domestically.
