This attitude of blaming users for using the obvious routes to achieving bitcoin self custody is infuriating.. Before attacking the users we should look inward and accept that we had a go at bitcoin UX and have failed horribly so far. Just inexcusably horribly failed.

The issue is that there are scams. The only way do correct it, is to scream at people, that it is idiotic to get devices with bad reputation from random places online. Equally, you also should not buy Rolex from a gipsy salesman on the beach. Do not shoot the messenger.
