a big reminder that *FOSS apps can still be centralized*

some simple questions to ask:
- if the app connects to a server, is that serverside part proprietary?
- does the app have hard-coded servers, or can the user change them?
- does the app promote running small instances?

apps like signal or bluesky deserve no space on your devices
using an app store like F-droid can point out these issues before you even install (see "anti-features")

Check the app's architecture, if it uses a federated protocol like ActivityPub, it can still be decentralized despite being FOSS.
