a big reminder that *FOSS apps can still be centralized*
some simple questions to ask:
- if the app connects to a server, is that serverside part proprietary?
- does the app have hard-coded servers, ...
Would you rather use a centralized FOSS app or just a closed source one?
FOSS helps us give confidence over what is happening and it's even better if they are frontend because then we know exactly what happens after our clicks and before the resultant data goes to the server, and we can judge wether we are comfortable with that exchange.
