Look at this in a different way - you can't increase 2^128 of EC, but you can use two ECs! Or three or more.

Well, to be fair, multisig is great... as long as all the keys aren't generated by devices made by the same manufacturer... Some are learning the hard way that "multi-vendor multisig" was not so paranoid after all.
