Have you ever met a bitcoiner who thinks every bitcoin user needs to hold their sats on a cold wallet and maintain their private key?

As the technology stands today this is not only unrealistic, it's mathematically impossible.

Being a utopian purist does not help this. There are scaling solutions, but they all require trade-offs. Some of the tech is clunky, but we are making progress with federations, lightning, and ecash.

If you care about bitcoin adoption the process is incremental, not zero to one hundred. Meet people where they are at and show them one step at a time ๐Ÿค™

Yeah I'd maybe sharpen that to: Every bitcoin user, in this current day, who has the technical know-how and confidence to do so, should at least experiment with cold storage self custody. As you say, it's a limited time opportunity. Why pass it up? You could be part of an exclusive class in the fu...

You're conflating anyone who spends Bitcoin with being a bitcoiner. The debit card in my wallet does not make me a bank. A bitcoiner is somebody who acts as their own bank by holding keys and running a node. They have secured their own financial sovereignty on the network. They are part of the netw...

"Mathematically impossible" how? Generating public private key pairs is cheap and quick

Anyone who can, should. Of course not everyone can. Not everyone can do anything. Bitcoin isn't for everyone. It's for anyone who wants to use it. And some will use it directly, others mediated. Not everyone had money in the middle ages, either, and those that did didn't always have gold, but ma...

I've met a few purists in my time. It's nice to have ideals to strive towards even if they're unrealistic when it comes to global mass adoption. I love that I can trade peer to peer in a non custodial & trustless way but I understand it's not scalable like this. So what's the best outcome that we ...

You dont go zero to private key.
