That’s how I always felt about it. But so many people use it and recommend it, I think it passes the shady vibe test. Also, they do let you control your keys I believe. I just don’t know exactly how it’s done, and never considered the effort to do it. But it does seem like a good thing to ge...

Tailscale client is opensource and basically is ok. Now there is also an opensource serwer for tailscale which coordinates the connections. But. There is a lot of other solutions like Nebula where you can host all the parts of it yourself. Links: https://github.com/juanfont/headscale https://github...

Btw if you use a vpn and you want to use tailscale on your phone at the same time, it is not too easy and convenient.

I had the same thought, but then I discovered Headscale. It allows you to host the central control server of your tailnet yourself. I'm now running the Headscale server for some time now and really can't complain! https://github.com/juanfont/headscale

I self-host Netbird. It was kind of a pain to get going, but I’ve had it running for years. It’s great! It’s just like TailScale but you can host everything yourself.

Been using it for years, nothing to complain about. They make money with the corporate accounts.

I've wondered the same about tailscale and anywherelan.
