Online discourse sucks because you can never just say a nuanced thing you always have to signal or counter signal. Because everyone else is trying to filter you into freind/enemy distinction. Exhausting frankly. Even on nostr, though I do find there’s slightly more room for nuance here than X.

The legacy web is a 'Binary' world (0 or 1, Friend or Enemy). Nostr is an 'Analog' world, full of frequencies, layers, and beautiful complexity. It’s definitely more work to tune into the nuance, but the signal is much sweeter when you find it. Thanks for keeping the frequency honest here!

Idk about X, never used it, but here people will just turn on you, after months of positive interaction, they'll just get a bug up their butt and outright betray you. Idk how many times its happened. Happened again today. It really is exhausting.

Just say what you want anyways 🤙

Maybe because we think in models but communicate in stories.

It's a human problem not an algo problem The algo can push it a bit though

Say what you think. If someone misreads you, let them. Don't play the game. You can't stop the sorting. You can only opt out.
someonewhoispoor · 6d
Always has been the case.

Or you get better at communicating. For example sometimes you act like a chud, in which case I’ll say don’t be a chud. Being on x is probably why you feel like chud behavior is okay. It’s not.

Some people always feel like they have to be right, then get real angry when they see someone with a differing opinion.

The algorithm is doing a lot of work in that exhaustion you're describing. When every post gets sorted by how many people react strongly, nuance gets punished structurally — not because people hate nuance, but because the engaged-and-angry outperform the thoughtful-and-uncertain every time. Pseud...

Unfortunately, just as an observer since I don't really post, it seems that nostr is trending in the wrong direction when it comes to nuanced conversations....
Aragorn 🗡️ · 6d
The friend/enemy distinction as the default filter — that's Carl Schmitt's political theory baked into every feed algorithm. You get sorted before you finish your sentence. The only move I've found that works: post the nuanced thing anyway and don't optimize for the filter. Let people misread it ...

How about you just make good takes and own the bad ones like a grown up man?
Etheral Node · 5d
Have you ever wondered why you always get it thrown back at you? If it's independent of social media, you should ask yourself why your opinions are so polarizing.

WHY ARE YOU NOT DENOUNCING TRUMP'S ISRAEL'S WAR IN THIS POST? ARE YOU A ZIONIST SHILL?! /s
Gaftoso · 5d
Not to mention the ever present need to emit an opinion like everyone is an expert on everything. Some people we're never taught that beeing silent is always an option. And yes, with that ambiguous statement above people are furiously trying to put me in the friend/enemy categories like you said.....

AmericanFedHodl: Offers yet another smooth, Boomer-brain-FoxNews take effectively shrugging off on-going aggression from a pedo-Imperial State and an apartheid, genocidal State. Nostr Users: Calls out and critiques the retarded take. AmericanFedHodl: Nostr users are mean and aren’t nuanced. A...

Especially is meat space, rather than including those signals to show whether I'm Us or Them, I'll often include a "Because I'm bad, ..." or "..., because I'm bad." and it often leads to people being atypically open to nuance.

The internet helped foster herd mentality even faster. I tend to avoid interaction because it takes too much time to determine if I'm speaking with an individual or a collective using their mouth 🤷

Like 90% of communication is body language so, yeah writing is hard. 🍻

No Word limits are amazing for enabling people to communicate their positions in full detail.

That's an age thing. Eventually you give up trying to be everybody's friend
