YouTube has a subscriptions page that used to show me just videos from channels I've subscribed to in chronological order. It was great.

Now most of the screen is filled with some recommended content "for me" (or "most relevant", who knows, they're still tweaking things apparently), which is basically just reordering the same few videos I have in my subscription, such that I can never get a clear picture of what is new and what isn't or what I have already watched or skipped and what I should take a look at.

Yep, newpipe (or pipe pipe or etc etc) is perfect for actually showing me my subscriptions in chronological order. YouTube is a nightmare for this.

But lately, I...

If you turn off your history than it stops giving you recommendations. Your home page will be blank but your subscriptions page will go back to only what you have subscribed to in chronological order.

See lots of newpipe/pipepipe recommendations, i have it installed on my phone but i never use them. Can't be bothered watching video on a tiny screen. If you are using a browser like me i have good experience with the "pockettube" addon.

I got hooked on YT when it first came out (over 20 years ago I guess). Sadly it doesn't matter what they do to the UX/UI, I'll just keep coming back for more. I know I'm not the only one...

The death of the chronological feed is the end of intent in favor of retention. They’ve turned a search tool into an attention casino. This is why we need protocols, not platforms.
